Bribery Allegations, Microsoft Agrees To Pay $250 Million

Bribery allegations, Microsoft agrees to pay $ 250 million

Microsoft Corporation has agreed to pay $ 25.5 million in bribery to government officials in other countries, including Hungary.
The US Department of Justice says Microsoft will pay $ 87 million in penalties under a 3-year contract and that Microsoft will accept responsibility for the unlawful action of employees.

In an e-mail to employees, Microsoft President Brad Smith said the illegal act of employees was unbearable, employees involved in Hungary are no longer with the company.

"There is no room for compromise on unacceptable practices in business activities," he said.

It should be noted that the prosecution in the court earlier said that Microsoft's scheme to sell software licenses to Hungarian government agencies benefited Microsoft from $ 13 million between 2013 and 2015.

Microsoft Hungarian executives and employees told Microsoft that a discount is required for these transactions.

Prosecutors say that the savings from the discount should have been known to the consumer, but it was received by the dealers in the meantime and bribe the government officials.
